Maintenance of Bike

It is important to do regular maintenance on your own Mountain Bike. The beauty of bike is it's simplicity. Many repairs and maintenance jobs can be done on your own. By making sure that the bike is in the right condition, the chances of injuries cause by the bike will be greatly reduced, some of the common and more serious injuries can be avoided.


Parts of a full suspension bike


Areas to check when doing maintenance:

  1. Brakes - Make sure they are in contact with rim of tyre, replace worn out brake cables. 
  2. Gears - Lubricate gears, cleaning of chain and rear sprockets.
  3. Steering - Ensure hand grips are secure, check for looseness in handlebar.
  4. Pedals - Able to spin freely, check for looseness.
  5. Frame - Check for any damage, ensure seat-post is at the correct height. 
  6. Accessories - Ensure bell and reflector are working.

Daily Maintenance:
Check on tyre conditions
  • Do a simple check on your bike before starting off on mountain biking. 
  • Check the brakes and tyre pressure.
Weekly Maintenance:
  • Lubricate the gears
  • Cleaning of bike
Monthly Maintenance:
  • Check on major items of the bike.
  • Check on tyre conditions and pressure, change if there is a need. 
  • Wheels should not have any dents or other damage.
  • Tighten axle nuts and cone
